In a festive ceremony, on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Themistokleion Complex of the University of Piraeus, the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael E. Sfakianakis, awarded the Olympic Athletes of the National Men's Polo Team, students and graduates of the University of Piraeus.
In his address, the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael E. Sfakianakis, congratulated the athletes for their excellent performances, but primarily for the high morals they demonstrated throughout their athletic journey, culminating in the distribution of a sizable part of their prize from the acquisition of the silver Olympic medal, to those people affected by the devastating fires of Evia. As teachers, we are proud that in our University family, we have these brilliant examples of students and alumni that are a motivation and a source of inspiration for all of us!
The Rector of the University of Piraeus Professor Michael E. Sfakianakis presented Honorary Plaques to the following, Theodoros Vlachos Federal coach, Ioannis Foudoulis (leader of the National Team) graduate of the Department of Banking and Financial Management, Georgios Dervisis student of the Department of Business Administration, Marios Kapotsis graduate of the Department of Business Administration, Christodoulos Kolombos, graduate of the Department of Business Administration, Konstantinos Mourikis, student of the Department of Business Administration, Zannis Alafragkis, student of the Department of Business Administration, Konstantinos Kakaris, student of the Department of Business Administration, and Angelos Vlachopoulos, student of the Department of Maritime Studies.
The award ceremony was graced by the presence of the Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Domna Michailidou, the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Kostas Katsafados, the Regional Governor of Attica Nikos Hardalias, Nikolaos Vlahakos Member of Parliament, Nikos Ambatielos Member of Parliament, the Mayor of Nikaia - Rentis Konstantinos Maragakis, the Shadow Head of Sports and member of PASOK – Movement for Change Thanassis Zannias, the Chief Communication Officer at Capital Ship Management Dr Niki Kalogiratou, and Theodoros Pantalakis, Chief Executive Officer at Apollonios Kyklos SA, Institution External Member of the Administrative Council of the university.
