The Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) of the University of Piraeus was evaluated by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) and received the highest level of compliance in all individual quality criteria.
This is a very important success for our Institution and confirmation of the excellent work carried out at all levels of its educational, research and administrative work.
This is the first time that our University has been accreditated with full compliance (Excellent). The criteria that constitute the evaluation framework for obtaining the quality certification are:
1. in the Foundation's strategy, the design and implementation of quality policy and goal setting,
2. in the planning procedures and allocation processes of material and human resources,
3. in the structure, organization and operation of the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) of the Foundation and the Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) of the University of Piraeus,
4. in the implementation of Internal Evaluation procedures in all University Study Programs,
5. the processes and tools for collecting, measuring, analyzing quality data and information, with the aim of making decisions that lead to changes and improvements,
6. the means and procedures it uses to disclose information (websites, social media, etc.)
7. the extent to which the observations and suggestions that emerged from the previous External Evaluation and Accreditation of the IQAS for the University have been utilized
As part of the Accreditation process, a committee of external evaluators and experts appointed by the ΗΑΗΕ conducted an external evaluation of the Foundation, an in-person on-site visit, during the week of March 3rd to 9th, 2025. They held working meetings and interviews with the Central Administration of the Institution, Presidents and Professors, members of the Internal Evaluation Teams of the Departments, representatives of Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctoral Students, Directors of Administrative Services, University Alumni as well as representatives of Social Partners. At the same time, the members of the Committee visited teaching classes, research laboratories and other infrastructures of the Foundation, to ascertain their quantitative and qualitative adequacy.
Months of preparation by our University preceded the visit, which included among other things, the drafting and submitting of a complete certification file to the HAHE. Professor Spyridon Roukanas, the Vice-Rector for Academic and Administrative Affairs coordinated the entire process.
Based on the Report prepared by the External Evaluation Committee and the decision issued by the HAHE, the Internal Quality Assurance System of the University of Piraeus complies with the principles of the HAHE Quality Standard and the Principles and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).
The Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael Sfakianakis, stated: "The Accreditation of our University's Quality System by the HAHE, and indeed with full compliance, proves on one hand our commitment to the continuous improvement of academic and administrative processes. And on the other hand, the commitment of the Rectorate to the implementation of a Quality strategy, which is being executed with visible results. Warm congratulations are due to all of the staff of the University that worked to achieve this excellent result. Our commitment is to continue to produce high-quality work constructing a University for the future."
