At the pre-conference scientific two-day event, at the University of Piraeus, on August 22 and 23, a series of quantitative and qualitative methodology tools were presented for the development and evaluation of library activities of all kinds.

Innovative service programs that identify user trends, evaluate targets, and measure the teaching and research efficiency of library contributions were analyzed. Also presented were models of utilizing social networks, recording user needs, evaluating investments in electronic journals and information sources, user satisfaction and evaluating the services of a library as a whole.

According to Dr. Anthi Katsirikou Head of the Library Information Education is a central activity of libraries all over the world and the evaluation of strategies contributes to the improvement of methods and the more effective education of students.

Participating in the program of visits to Libraries, the Conferences visited the Educational Foundation of the Journalists' Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers, which was also a supporter of the scientific event, and had the opportunity to browse the collections, books, manuscripts, newspapers and the archive of unique importance for the history of the country , which dates from 1914, in the Library of the union "Dimitris I. Pournaras".

The Conference members were welcomed in the library by Maria Antoniadou President of the Union and the Educational Foundation, the members of the board of the Educational Foundation Fani Petralia and Dimitris Gionis. The tour of the members was undertaken by Triantafyllos Sklavenitis Historian and Emeritus Director of the EIE, in the presence of Eleni Pournara Karkazi , of the Greek Ambassador to the Vatican and Mrs. Nikolaos Patakias and Hr. Bousi Director of the Union.
