The day conference "Onassis Scholarships and Funding Opportunities" was held on Wednesday, December the 4th, in the packed conference hall of the University of Piraeus. The event took place in order to inform undergraduate, postgraduate students as well as faculty members of the University of Piraeus, about scholarships.
The Rector of the University of Piraeus Professor Michael Sfakianakis, who welcomed the director of Onassis Foundation Scholarships, Ms. Stella Tatsis, warmly as he himself was a scholarship holder, a fact that defined his life and academic development, greeted the event.
The President of the Department of Economics Professor Ioannis Pollalis, a fellow of the Onassis Foundation himself, emphasized the great importance of scholarship institutions, as they give young people the opportunity and the means to fulfil their dreams and change their lives. A foundation scholarship is not only a material means of completing studies but also a great opportunity to shape the path and personality of a scientist.
The director of Scholarships of the Onassis Foundation, Ms. Stella Tatsi, briefly presented the foundation and its philosophy, which is based on the saying of its founder "Culture, Education and Health. This is what a man needs to live - not just to survive."
The foundation is a heterogeneous human ecosystem, serving Art through Onassis Culture, Health through Onassis Health, which still believes in the deep and increasingly imperative current value, free public health for all, and Education, supporting lifelong education, pursuing excellence, strengthening the human will to become the best in your field, with a passion for science as a vehicle.
Then she presented in detail the scholarship program for students and researchers that responds to the priority of the Onassis Foundation for the release of forces in society and the promotion abroad of a "Greece at its best".
From 1978 up to date, the Onassis Foundation has awarded more than 7,600 scholarships to students, researchers, artists and scientists, with a comprehensive and meritorious process to young men and women who dare, innovate and create in all fields.
