The world-renowned Professor Lin Guijun, invited by the University of Piraeus, delivered an important lecture at the Conference Auditorium on Thursday, November 14, 2024, on the topic: ‟Transformation of Global Economy amid Uncertainties”.
The distinguished Professor Lin Guijun was welcomed by the rector of the University of Piraeus, who briefly referred to his impressive academic career and his important work, which is mainly related to the role of international trade on the global and national economies.
As Professor Lin Guijun mentioned in his speech, from 2008 until today, the economy has faced eighteen crises of various sizes, geographically localized or global, some of them natural, some diplomatic and some political. A war, a change in tariffs, a diplomatic crisis, have effects that are no longer limited to one place or one continent, and given the structure of international trade, problems arise and changes are required almost everywhere.
The model that tries to predict the evolution of each era, has geopolitical stability, economic globalization and technological innovation as axes and can give results at a local or global level, starting from imbalance, introversion or contraction and ending in optimum conditions in globalization, increasing trade volume and market expansion.
Regarding China in particular and its trade relations with Europe, the export ratio is almost twice the import ratio; nevertheless, there is a lot of room for improvement. China has a significant potential for large production of goods but little potential for the production of specialized items or special products, which are the specific areas in which Europe is distinguished. Even Greece, which is one of the most historically distinguished partners of China, falls far short of the exports it could make to China.
Distinguished Professor Lin Guijun is Director of the Cooperation Committee for International Trade Programs of Chinese Universities, University of International Business & Economics in Beijing, where he has also served as Rector.
