Easter treats, toys, clothes and shoes were delivered to the 60 children housed in the Child Protection Branch of Attica "Mitera " as part of the social work of the University of Piraeus.

The action was completed by the volunteer students "Kerykes" in collaboration with the Municipality of Nikaia - Ag. I. Rentis and the Voluntary Action Group "U Come too!".
The "Kerykes" student volunteers (Eleni Giannoukou, Liana Krivoi, Evangelia Kyroglou, Panos Nikologiannis, Anna Rapti, Glykeria Siatra, Dimitris Sofikitis) were accompanied on behalf of the University of Piraeus by the head of the Communication Office Eleni Stathatou and the head of the Press Office Maria Tsirtsikou .
The Mayor of Nikaia - Ag. I. Rentis, Konstantinos Maragakis, the General Secretary of the Municipality Danai Hatjithoma, the Deputy Mayor of Education and Culture Maria Aravantinou and the Deputy Mayor of Digital Governance Michalis Arvanitis and Kalliopi Drakou from the Communication Office of the Municipality, together with the "Kerykes" group, distributed the Easter gifts to the children housed in the Kindergarten section in a festive atmosphere full of emotional moments for everyone.

Vassiliki Galani, acting director of the branch, guided the visitors through the "Mitera" premises, and informed them about its history, how it operates in all levels of child protection, fostering and adoption, about the difficulties it faces and answered the many questions from the University volunteers..
The transport of the gifts was taken care of by the University of Piraeus, which provided the University's electric van and the Department of Cleaning & Recycling and the Employees' Association of the Municipality of Nikaia - Ag. I. Rentis.
The Rector of the University of Piraeus Professor Michael Sfakianakis emphasized that the University, integrates with respect, love and consistency, as part of its educational process, every action aimed at supporting and upgrading the society in which it operates, embracing and supporting partnerships and actions such as the one made with the Municipality of Nikaia - Ag. I. Rentis for the Child Protection Branch of Attica "Mitera”.
He stressed that although a university fortifies students with knowledge, we also need to cultivate the concepts of respect, responsibility, empathy, justice, and solidarity, virtues that lead societies towards a better future. The action that took place today at the "Mitera" Child Protection Branch, which is the oldest child protection organization in our country, reinforces this effort in a positive way.

The Mayor of Nikaia - Ag. I. Rentis, Konstantinos Maragakis expressed his joy and emotion, that with the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael Sfakianakis, this partnership of love for the children who lack a family was completed and thanked all the volunteers for their essential contribution.
Ending his intervention, he emphasized that other social awareness synergies will follow because we owe children a healthy future. "Mitera" offers a safe and supportive environment to the children it hosts after a prosecutor's order. It is necessary for the state to invest in the staffing of this structure with specialized personnel, doctors and allocate corresponding resources in order to ensure the continuous provision of high quality services".
