In a constantly changing environment in highly competitive conditions and under the current economic challenges of the Greek economy, the provision of specialized scientific education that combines administrative, technological and positive sciences, with the aim of training new scientists and executives who will contribute to competitiveness, is now urgent.
The University of Piraeus aims to train, educate and promote executives with an emphasis on the applications of new technologies. Its aim is to provide students with the knowledge of scientific methodology required for the analysis, design, implementation and organization of appropriate systems, with the aim of effective dealing with the complex problems arising from the interdependencies between the human factor, raw materials, means of production and modern technology in production.
The subjects of the University focus on the main sectors of the Greek Economy, such as Shipping, Tourism, Industry, Energy, Financial and Insurance Services, Information and Communication Technologies, as well as knowledge and skills in areas such as Business Administration , Economic Analysis, Statistics, International Relations, etc.
In a highly competitive environment, at a critical time, the University of Piraeus is implementing an ambitious plan to consolidate itself in the research sector (beyond quality studies and organization), through a network of initiatives:
• Promote the development of New International Agreements for our inclusion in international networks of scientific cooperation and mobility – We promote and strengthen more than 200 active cooperation agreements and protocols
• Linking to the manufacturing world – Promoting effective Linking to the labor market for our students and graduates
• More functional integration into the local society and economy, promoting effective collaborations with the city of Piraeus and the wider functional area of South-West Attica
• Diffusion of research and knowledge in society, strengthening our internal structures for the more effective dissemination of research results, while establishing modern and flexible mediating and innovation promotion structures
• Development of partnerships for the creation of "mixed" research structures and infrastructures with the participation of our researchers (e.g. spin-offs, clusters, incubators, science parks, startup hubs, etc.) - For example, we mention our collaboration with Municipality and agencies of Piraeus in the joint development and promotion of research and business innovation in the field of Blue Economy and Shipping


The contribution to the development of the country's research ecosystem
• The amount of resources managed by the ELKE of our University in recent years is over 57 million euros• Steady annual increase in research resources from competitive programs (European and other)
• Continuous claim for resources from national, EU and international resources, achieving the increase and strengthening of the absorption indicators of European and national funds linked to competitive programs (participation in more than 30 active HORIZON, Interreg, Erasmus PLUS projects)
• Continuous development and upgrading of the 59 research laboratories operating and active in the 10 departments of our institution
• More than 198 active research projects employing more than 550 researchers, scientific collaborators, and faculty members of our University.
