On November 25, by decision of the Board of Administration of the University of Piraeus, taken by secret ballot and a majority of eleven (11/11), Professor Michalis Sfakianakis was elected Rector.

In the proposed development plan of the University that he presented, he characterized the synthesis as the only path to success, which will be supported and strengthened by a safe environment for all members of the academic community. Synthesis of opinions, ideas, synergies and constructive confrontations with ethics and respect and utilization of all members of the University and a collective spirit without exclusion.
A Higher Education Institution must have a strong and distinct identity and this is achieved by ensuring high quality in education and academic excellence, intense and multidimensional research activity and innovative practices.
The University of Piraeus produces valuable educational research and social work, with an emphasis on extroversion and internationalization, which, in addition to being recognized by specialized bodies and scientific associations, must be promoted even more in a local, national and international environment and be in constant collaboration with public and private bodies.
The University, a living cell of the life of the wider region of Piraeus, is inextricably linked to its immediate and multidimensional social and economic environment and our goal is to strengthen innovation and utilize research results and our human resources to provide added value in every level.
Finally, he emphasized the dynamic upgrading of the quality of the academic environment by making use of all the building infrastructure that was successfully bequeathed by the previous Rector's authorities, the further improvement and utilization of the supporting services and the creation of new structures for the benefit of the human resources in it.

Michalis Sfakianakis, Professor of Applied Informatics in Business Administration ,University of Piraeus, has been President of the Central Supervisory Board of the General Commercial Register (G.E.M.I.), member of the National Telecommunications and Posts Committee, member (after selection by the European Commission) of the European Advisory Committee on Economic and Social Issues, member (after selection) of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development OECD (OECD) Coordinating Committee for its Global Project Measuring the Progress of Societies.
