The University of Piraeus and Purdue University, Indiana, U.S.A. signed a five-year cooperation memorandum.  With this particular cooperation, the two bodies certify their decision to cooperate and coordinate their actions in areas of common interests.

The Memorandum was signed by the Rector of Piraeus University (UniPi), Professor Michael Sfakianakis and the President of Purdue University Mung Chiang, Roscoe H. George Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The main objective of the Memorandum is the development of distance learning or with the physical presence of students, dual and joint degree programs as well as the joint development of educational and research programs, based on agreed goals and results.

Purdue University is a public University with over 50,000 students representing more than 135 countries, 11 colleges, 400 research laboratories and more than 2,000 faculty and staff. Ranked as one of the 10 most prestigious institutions in the world, it is third among public US universities in the annual GUV ranking and its researchers are ranked fourth among US universities. It is also fifth in the world — in US patents received in 2023 — with 201 patents.
According to Purdue University President Mung Chiang, the purpose is to build human bridges of trust. In order to achieve these goals, public universities, must serve and engage the society.

The Rector of the University of Piraeus Professor Michael Sfakianakis observed that both sides have common goals of cooperation, extroversion and research in innovative scientific fields that will dominate the future.
The Rector of the Technical University of Crete (TUC), Professor Michael Zervakis, attended the meeting.
Accompanying the Rector of UniPi and participating in the meeting, were Professor Maria Virvou Head of Department of Informatics and Professor Georgios Tsihrintzis, member of the Piraeus University Board of Directors.
Accompanying the President of Purdue University and participating in the meeting were Dimitrios Peroulis, Vice President of Purdue University Online, Reilly Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Petros Drineas, Professor and Associate Head, Department of Computer Science, Pavlos Vlahos, St. Vincent Health Professor of Healthcare Engineering; Director of the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering and Dr Peristera Paschou, Professor and Interim Head of Biological Sciences.
