The University of Piraeus and the American University of Illinois at Chicago (University of Illinois at Chicago) have signed a five-year cooperation agreement that provides the exchange of students and teachers between the two institutions, joint educational programs, joint research activities, and the exchange of academic material.
This agreement is part of the extroversion and development of international academic relations strategy of our university.
According to Angelos Kotios, the UniPi Rector, this agreement provides access for professors and students to the high quality American scientific environment and especially in the city of Chicago, which has a dynamic Greek presence. This agreement consolidates education and research collaboration of the University of Piraeus with one of the largest and most active academic institutions in the United States.
The agreement was signed by Professors Christos Amoridis, Rector of the University of Illinois, and Aristotle Giambiri, President of the Department of International and European Studies at the University of Piraeus.
At the same time, the University of Piraeus delegation made contacts with the Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC) and the Chicago Council for Global Affairs.
The Rector of UIC, Professor Michalis Amoridis like many other UIC students - reflects the diverse nature of the city of Chicago. He calls UIC "a model of a public, urban research institute in America, which is at the same time located in a very vibrant globalized city".
As Rector of the UIC, he is responsible for Chicago's largest university campus with 30,000 students, 12,000 faculty and staff and sixteen colleges, including the largest medical school in the US. It coordinates the state's most important public medical center along with a network of clinics that have been recognized by federal agencies and campuses in the Peoria, Rockford and Urbana-Champaign areas.
