The opening of the scientific Conference on the topic "Cyprus Republic and the Cyprus Issue: Institutional and Cultural Aspects, Negotiation Process, Regional, Technological and Energy Parameters, Security and Geostrategic Dimensions"  took place in the Events Hall of the Pancyprian Organization of Greek Teachers (POED), in Nicosia, Cyprus. 

The Conference was co-organized by the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus and the Department of International and European Studies of the School of Economics, Business and International Studies of the University of Piraeus. The Conference began with greetings from Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, the Rector of the University of Piraeus Professor Michael Sfakianakis and the President of the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus Professor Aristotle Tziambiris.

Michalis Sfakianakis, Rector of the University of Piraeus, welcomed the begining of the conference at a time that seems positive for the revitalization of the negotiation process on the Cyprus issue that has been an absolute priority throughout recent history. Cyprus is once again called upon to fight the great battle at institutional, political, cultural, and geopolitical levels, with seriousness, responsibility, and strategy for peace and security in the Mediterranean. The University of Piraeus, recognizing the stakes, awarded the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, an honorary doctorate degree to, as a recognition of a leader who, having a strategic mind and managing through his long career critical situations, can lead his country, with steady steps, towards the future.
Through four thematic sessions (Institutional and cultural aspects, the Cyprus issue and the negotiation process, Regional, technological and energy parameters, Security and geostrategic dimensions) and the participation of sixteen speakers, academics, technocrats and politicians, the conference highlighted a wide range of issues related to the complex aspects and parameters of the Cyprus problem, as well as the negotiation process that has been followed to date towards its resolution.
