The conference "“Tourism of Value for the future" by the Department of Tourism Studies of the University of Piraeus, at the Grand Hyatt Athens Hotel, was concluded with great success.
The Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael Sfakianakis opened the conference and the General Secretary of Tourism Policy & Development, Vassiliki Koutsoukou, the Dean of the School of Economics, Business and International Studies, Professor Nikolaos Georgopoulos, and the President of the Department of Tourism Studies, Aggelos Kotios addressed the conference.
The University of Piraeus, the first university in Greece with a Master's program in "Business Administration - Tourism Management" (MBA - Tourism Management) since 1996, and the first University to have established, since 2017, an undergraduate Department of Tourism Studies, on one hand, has provided the domestic and international market with executives who hold leading positions in Tourism, on the other hand, it considers its crucial mission to design the strategy for the next day of Tourism, which is the attraction of valued Tourism to our country.
During the works of the Conference, this specific strategy was analyzed, taking into account the high benefits that our country can obtain from the value tourist, who upon returning to his country, will act as an ambassador of the offered Greek tourist product, to the people in his circle making them tourists of value too.
The attraction of Value Tourism coincides with the modern trend of the development and the offering of experiences to the visitor. Greece is the only country in the world, far apart from the second one, that can offer experiences based on three pillars, the ancient Greek thought, Greek mythology and the Homeric Iliad and Odyssey.
In addition to these, it combines the sun and the sea, creating a unique mix of experiences for the tourist. Based on this strategy, more destinations can be illuminated, so that better flow management in place and time can be achieved.
In this Conference, the integration and use of modern technologies in the provision of services and the necessity of training people were analysed in the context of the strategic planning for tourism in the future.
Along with the very serious issue of Special Spatial Tourism and the Carrying Capacity of Destinations, which, in conjunction with investments in Tourism, demonstrated the need for immediate acceleration of processes, so that sustainable strategic investments proceed to implementation.
