The Scientific Conference "Insularity and Blue Economy: Pillar of Development, Innovation and Entrepreneurship", which was held on May 26 and 27 at the University of Piraeus, with Professor Angelos Kotios as scientific director.

The aim of the conference was to record current scientific knowledge and transform it into a useful and effective tool for the action of scientific, political, governmental and business entities and according to Nektarios Santorinios, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, the conclusions and proceedings were sent to the European Union and the chambers for a general political and economic utilization of them.
The two-day conference was organized by the Laboratory of International & European Development Policies and Programs (DevelopmentLAB), of the School of Economics, Business and International Studies of the University of Piraeus, both with the Interdepartmental Interuniversity Master's Program "Local and Regional Development and Self-Government (University of Peloponnese), and the pan-European organization INSULEUR ("Network of Island Chambers of the European Union") and EOAEN ("Chamber Group for the Development of Greek Islands", with the participation of more than 300 delegates and 60 speakers, in the central auditorium of the University of Piraeus.

The conference was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy and in particular the Deputy Minister Nektarios Santorinios, supported by Hellenic Petroleum, Athens International Airport (AIA), the Hellenic Recycling Utilization Company and DEPA (as part of the program PoseidonMED-II) also received the support of ERT and as communication sponsors the Television Station of the Hellenic Parliament and the Athens -Macedonian News Agency. Among other things, they discussed the establishment of the Department of Tourism Studies at the University of Piraeus, which is part of the School of Economics, Business and International Studies, the role and the need to support island municipalities, the importance of the Entrepreneurship Fund for the island economy, the European strategies for the blue economy and the insular cohesion of the EU, the initiative of the Municipality of Piraeus "Piraeus Bluegrowth, human capital, skills and the social economy in the islands, the environment in relation to energy & the circular economy in the insular area, Tourism & Blue Economy.
