The University of Piraeus and the Department of Finance and Banking Administration hosted the 18th EUFIN 2023, (European Financial Reporting) an international and pan-European event in the field of Accounting. The Conference, a very important institutionalized academic event, is under the auspices and support of the European Accounting Association (EAA) and is in direct connection with one of the two official journals Accounting in Europe.

EUFIN 2023 was organized in Greece for the first time, an event that contributes crucially to the promotion of this particularly important and relevant field of knowledge for productive sectors for our country, for our University, and for the city of Piraeus.
The Rector, Professor Michalis Sfakianakis, in his greeting to the delegates, noted that the organization of EUFIN 2023 at the University of Piraeus is in line with the University's strategic goals, of creating strong links between academic teaching and professional market practices and the development of international partnerships that contribute significantly to the production, organization and dissemination of knowledge. He warmly welcomed the participants from 18 different countries, who have come to Greece to present their research work and participate in interesting discussions about the state and future of financial information in Europe.
The Chair of the Department of Banking and Financial Management, Professor Seraina Anagnostopoulou, in turn greeted the delegates and the distinguished guest speakers, from Europe and Greece. She then thanked the sponsors of the Conference (European Accounting Association – Accounting in Europe magazine, ACCA, Bank of Greece, PwC Greece, Eurobank, Grivalia Management, Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, Piraeus University Research Center, DBC Diadikasia), as well as the editorial team of the Accounting magazine in Europe and the executive staff of the University of Piraeus who worked hard to organize the conference.

Beyond the work presentations, the purpose of the Conference is to bring together academics and market professionals in the field of financial accounting with an emphasis on the logic of the practices applied in our country and in the field of sustainability accounting, etc., a topic that is directly linked to the choice of speakers.
After evaluation, scientific papers were presented (more than 45 for EUFIN 2023), about 20% of which were submitted in addition to the presentation at the conference and to a judging process for possible publication by the scientific journal Accounting in Europe. Invited speakers from the academic and professional practice of accounting, as well as from regulatory bodies (IASB, EFRAG) of recognized prestige, provided lectures on current developments and concerns in the practice, from an academic and practical point of view, of Accounting in Europe, on financial instruments accounting and providing corporate information on sustainability issues.
It was established that there is an urgent need for a continuous dialogue between academics in the knowledge field of accounting and professionals in the field, as well as regulatory bodies in the field so that academic research and its conclusions are more closely linked to the practical application of accounting legislation. Also providing feedback to regulatory authorities on challenges and potential problems in the application of accounting rules. Finally, the planning of the organization of the 19th EUFIN 2024 by the University of Bologna, Italy was announced.
