The event started with the welcome address by the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael Sfakianakis. The acquisition of knowledge, he said, must move along the Ethos-Passion-Reason axis, so that, in parallel, other skills can be developed as well. He urged them to seek empathy, emotional intelligence, reason, enthusiasm and passion, throughout their student life, skills that the entire academic staff is tasked with promoting.

 He then referred to the University's strategy of the strengthening and support of research activity, especially in cutting-edge fields such as Artificial intelligence, digital technologies and cyber security. He focused on the corporate social responsibility actions cantered on people, society and the environment, sustainable development, the development of an accessible and inclusive University culture, the cultivation of volunteering and the connection of the University with its alumni.
This was followed by the awards for the beach volleyball student athletes who received gold and silver medals in the 2023 University Games among 16 Universities and the archery athlete who took sixth place in the World University Games 2021. Finally yet importantly, he presented awards for those students, members of the volunteer team "Kerykes" of the University of Piraeus, for their participation in social actions during the previous academic year.
The event ended with the musical performance "Mare Nostrum" by the Musical Ensemble of the University of Piraeus.
