On Monday, April 11, 2022, the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus presented Professor Paul A. Rahe with the "Themistocles" Award.


The "Themistoklis" award is given to prominent personalities in academia, politics, and society, with the aim of highlighting their role in shaping strategy and honoring their outstanding contribution to international issues.
Mr. Rahe, a professor at Hillsdale College, is internationally recognized for his pioneering work in the field of History and his connections to philosophy, political theory and strategic studies. His work extends to Greek culture, and among his works four books on the strategy of Ancient Sparta and the wars they waged against the Athenians, stand out.
The event took place at the Laskaridis Foundation with speakers including the former European Commissioner, Minister, and Mayor of Athens Dimitris Avramopoulos, the Dean of the School of Economics, Business and International Studies Professor Michalis Sfakianakis and the Department of European Studies Professors Athanasios Platias, Aristotle Giambiris, and Eirini Cheila.
