On Wednesday, June 29th, 2022, in the Great Hall of Ceremonies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), with the participation of representatives of the government and the academic community, the opening event of the "Funding of the Operation of Structures & Technology Transfer Actions at NKUA” Project was completed, with the funding of EYD EPANEK.

The event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Research and Lifelong Education and President of the Special Research Funds Account (SRFA) of the University of Piraeus, Professor Grigorios Chondrokoukis, because in the approved project EPANEK - Axis B, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship "Archimedes", the University of Piraeus, the Harokopion University and the Medical Biological Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens, all cooperate as an innovative academic collaborative network
Mr. Chondrokoukis referred to the actions, which have already been implemented by the Program Management & Monitoring Department of the Directorate "Economic and Administrative Support Unit of the Special Research Funds Account (SRFA), for the creation of a Technology Transfer Office at the University of Piraeus. The Vice-Rector for Research and Lifelong Education praised the collaboration with the "Archimedes" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center for the support in the transfer of knowledge, ideas and innovative results, within the framework of the cooperation of academic institutions. Additionally, Mr. Chondrokoukis referred to the significant effort made by the University of Piraeus and all members of the academic community, to create flows of new knowledge and innovation between the academic community, entrepreneurship and society at large.
Assistant Professor of the Department of Tourism Studies UNIPI, Mr. Sotiris Varelas, followed with a presentation on the subject of Technology Transfer at the University of Piraeus and the perspectives within the Project.
The Technology Transfer Office of the University of Piraeus will be a key driver for the development of innovation in Academic Institutions and a tool for connecting the University of Piraeus and its Research Laboratories with the economy and society in general. It will also strengthen the effort of members of the academic community to promote applied research and university spin offs in an environment of protection of their intellectual work.
The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Development and Investments for Research and Innovation Mr. Christos Dimas, the Rector of NKUA, Professor Mr. Meletios – Athanasios Dimopoulos, the former Prime Minister, President of Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA), Academic Mr. Loukas Papademos, the Rector of Harokopeio University, Professor Maria Nikolaidis, Professor Nikolaos Voulgaris, Vice-Rector for Research and Lifelong Education NKUA and Scientific Project Manager, as well as academics, researchers and University officials.
