On Sunday, 2 February 2025, the University of Piraeus organized an educational trip to Nafplio and Mycenae, as part of the activities of its Modern Greek Language courses.
The trip was attended by international students participating in the Erasmus programme, as well as learners who chose to study Modern Greek at the University of Piraeus, an initiative implemented for the first time during the 2024–2025 academic year. This excursion marks the first in a series of planned educational visits aiming to familiarize participants with sites of significant historical and cultural importance.
During the trip, students visited the Corinth Canal, the archaeological site of Mycenae with the Lion Gate and the Treasury of Atreus, as well as Palamidi and Bourtzi in Nafplio.
Guided throughout the excursion by Nikos Kakavelakis, lecturer of the Modern Greek Language courses, the participants benefited from his knowledge and passion for history, which turned the visit into a vivid and meaningful educational experience.
Erasmus student from Poland Gabriela Dec, sharing her impressions, emphasized that the trip was not merely a sightseeing tour, but a comprehensive experience of learning, culture, and human connection—one she will always remember.
This initiative highlights the University of Piraeus’ commitment to linking language education with experiential learning and Greece’s cultural heritage.
