
The University of Piraeus successfully hosted the 111th Rectors’ Conference of the Greek Universities from April 1 to April 4, 2026, at the Divani Apollon Thalasso in Vouliagmeni. The Conference brought together the Rectors of all Universities in the country, along with representatives of the political and institutional leadership of higher education, highlighting the importance of dialogue on the future of the public university.
During the proceedings of the Conference, participants highlighted and discussed critical issues concerning the operation and development of Greek Universities. They placed particular emphasis on the need to strengthen student welfare, address the understaffing of Institutions, and increase funding, especially to meet infrastructure and energy cost needs. At the same time, they examined ways to improve the institutional framework governing members of the Teaching and Research Staff (DEP), as well as to enhance internationalization through the development of international study programs. They also focused on reducing bureaucracy and adopting modern and effective administrative practices.
Representatives of the political leadership of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, as well as institutional stakeholders from higher education and public administration, actively contributed to the dialogue on further strengthening the public university.
The University of Piraeus expresses its sincere gratitude to all participants for contributing to the successful completion of the Conference and underlines that the joint effort of all stakeholders remains essential for continuously upgrading the quality of higher education and strengthening the role of Greek Universities in society and the economy.
