On Monday, May the 19th, 2025, at the Themistoklion Complex of the University of Piraeus, the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael E. Sfakianakis, in a joyful ceremony, presented the awards for the Athletes of the National Men's and Women's Polo Team and the National Football Team that are students and alumni of the University of Piraeus. The ceremony took place on the Commencement day of the graduates of the Department of Business Organization and Administration of our University.
During his address, the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael E. Sfakianakis, congratulated the athletes for raising the flag of Greece to the highest flagpole in the world with their exceptional performance. He recalled the similar awarding of athletes from the National Men's Polo Team that had taken place a year and a half ago which aimed to highlight the high morale demonstrated by the athletes, when they offered half the bonus from winning the silver Olympic medal in Tokyo, to our fellow human beings affected by the devastating fires in Evia. As teachers, he said, we are proud that, we have shining examples in our University family students that are a motivation and source of inspiration for all of us! In addition, we wish for our athletes to continue to fight with pride for our country.
The Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael E. Sfakianakis, presented Honorary Plaques to the athletes of the National Women's Polo Team, Eleni Xenaki, student of the Department of Business Organization, Athena Giannopoulou, graduate of the Department of Business Organization, Margarita Plevritou, graduate of the Department of Maritime Studies, Eleftheria Plevritou, graduate of the Department of Maritime Studies, Chrysoula Diamantopoulou, graduate of the Department of Maritime Studies, Maria Myriokefalitaki, student of the Department of Maritime Studies and Triantafylia Manolioudaki, graduate of the Department of Maritime Studies.
To the athletes of the Men's National Polo Team, Konstantinos Kakaris, graduate of the Department of Business Organization, Konstantinos Mourikis, graduate of the Department of Business Organization, Ioannis Alafragkis, student of the Department of Business Organization, Georgios Dervisis, graduate of the Department of Business Organization. To the athlete of the National Football Team, international goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, graduate of the Department of Business Organization.
The Mayor of Nikaia – Agios Ioannis Rentis Konstantinos Maragakis, Professors of the University of Piraeus, Parents and friends attended the ceremony.
