The celebration of the National Day of March 25th was held in the packed Conference Hall of our University, in the presence of the Rector's Authorities, Professors, members of the University's Administrative Staff, members of the Piraeus Municipality Authorities, as well as students.

The Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael Sfakianakis, highlighting the dual dimension of the celebration, the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and our National Rebirth, stated that the Greek church and the Teachers of the Nation fought a great battle so that, for more than 400 years, the national consciousness would be kept alive and the flame of independence and Hellenism unquenchable. The revolution transformed “freedom or death” into action, causing shivers of emotion throughout the world and giving substance and entity to the Greek Nation.

The day's address was delivered by Assistant Professor of the Department of Maritime Studies Petros Stavroulakis on the topic "The Legacy of the Revolution and the Freedom of Today".
Today, he said, we pay tribute to the women and men of the revolution, who turned their backs to the ephemeral and claimed the independence of their souls. They fought for a bright future and a free homeland.
Greece, the once beacon of knowledge for the entire civilized world, did not experience the Renaissance and Enlightenment years, missed the collective European transition from the shackles of the Middle Ages to the modern world and did not get to see society break its shackles with the flourishing of art and science. Nevertheless, she emerged with all her potential and talents intact, seeking freedom, education, training, moral and spiritual revival. This request is served by the University throughout time, as a sacred place, where the seed bears the fruit that will allow freedom to find refuge in society. Education is the foundation upon which the hopes of the entire Greek Nation were born, rooted, supported and acted, and on which they still breathe and dream.
The event was attended by His Eminence the Archbishop of Piraeus and Faliro, Mr. Seraphim, and Alexandros Tzeferakos, President of the Piraeus Municipal Council. 25 martiou 2025 01
