The study "Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators" by Professor John Ioannidis and his team at Stanford University USA, includes eight faculty professors from the University of Piraeus. This study lists the world's leading scientists based on the impact of their published work throughout their careers and includes the top 100,000 scientists worldwide from all scientific subjects, as well as 2% of the top scientists in their main subfield discipline.

The evaluation was based on the impact of their research work and specifically on the reports, it has received according to the Scopus database. Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings. Delivering a comprehensive overview of the world's research output in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and arts and humanities, Scopus features smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research.

The 8 professors of the University of Piraeus included in the list are the following:

Theodoridis Yannis Professor at the Department of Informatics, Director of the Data Science Lab.

Maglogiannis Ilias Professor at the Department of Digital Systems and Director of the Computational Biomedicine Lab.

Douligeris Christos Professor at the Department of Informatics, Director of the Network and Telecommunication Systems, Services and Security Lab.

Gritzalis Stefanos Professor at the Department of Digital Systems and member of the Systems Security Lab.

Vergados Dimitrios Professor at the Department of Informatics and Director of the Laboratory of Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies & Services.
