A new era of cooperation begins for the Hellenic Police and the University of Piraeus, with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
The memorandum was signed by the Chief of the Hellenic Police, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Mallios, and the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michail Sfakianakis.
The agreement covers a wide range of subject areas, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, disruptive technologies, strategy and defence policy, crisis management, e-learning, project management, as well as the utilization of the Internet of Things (IoT).
During the ceremony, Lieutenant General Mallios, holder of a master's degree from Panteion University and a postgraduate student at the University of Piraeus, emphasized the importance of education and further training for the evolution of the Hellenic Police, stressing that cooperation with the University of Piraeus will enhance the extroversion and upgrading of the Corps’ educational system.
For his part, Rector Sfakianakis underlined that the University consistently supports the Security Forces and the Armed Forces, providing access to high-level educational programs. “I feel particular joy for this day. With this Memorandum, we facilitate access for the officers of the Hellenic Police to high-level educational programs and further strengthen our cooperation. I am confident that this partnership will flourish and yield significant results.”
Present at the signing ceremony on behalf of the University of Piraeus were the Vice Rector for Finance, Planning and Development, Professor Styliani Sofianopoulou, the Chair of the Department of Informatics, Professor Maria Virvou, the Dean of the School of Maritime and Industrial Studies, Professor Angelos Pantouvakis, the Chair of the Department of Business Administration, Professor Dimitrios Georgakellos, as well as the University’s Communications Officer, Eleni Stathatou.
Representing the Hellenic Police were the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Charalambos Kalogiros, the General Director of Strategic Coordination, Major General Ioannis Skouras, the General Director of Human Resources Management, Major General Sotirios Kyprakis, the Director of the Police Academy, Brigadier General Georgios Zacharis, along with directors and senior officers of services related to the subject of the Memorandum.
The signing of the Memorandum marks an important step in strengthening the interaction between academic research and police practice, aiming to promote innovation, knowledge, and mutual support in areas of strategic importance.
