A global meeting of minds in Statistical Modeling and its Applications

The 6th International ΣtatMod Conference – Statistical Modeling with Applications was successfully held from 26 to 28 September 2025 at the University of Piraeus. The conference was co-organized by the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science of the University of Piraeus, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and Applied Mathematics “Gheorghe Mihoc–Caius Iacob” of the Romanian Academy, the Raphaël Salem Mathematics Laboratory of the University of Rouen – Normandy (CNRS), and the National Institute of Economic Research “Costin C. Kiritescu” of the Romanian Academy..ΣtatMod 2025 3
The main objective of ΣtatMod was to bring together distinguished scientists and young researchers from around the world working in the field of Statistical Modeling, highlighting both the theoretical and applied aspects of the discipline. Through a series of rich presentations and scientific discussions, participants explored the latest developments in the field and outlined key directions for future research.
A particularly moving moment of this year’s event was its dedication to Professor Markos V. Koutras, on the occasion of his retirement in the summer of 2025, in recognition of his outstanding scientific contribution and his long-standing service to the University of Piraeus..ΣtatMod 2025 5
The conference opened on Friday, 26 September, with the Opening Session, featuring addresses by Professor Vlad Barbu (Co-chair of the ΣtatMod conference series), Associate Professor Alexandros Karagrigoriou (Chair of the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science), Professor Michail Sfakianakis (Rector of the University of Piraeus), and the honoree, Professor Markos V. Koutras.
Rector Michail Sfakianakis officially declared the conference open, warmly welcoming Greek and international delegates. In his address, he emphasized the dual importance of statistical science—both at a theoretical level and in its modern applications—and highlighted its crucial role in actuarial risk management, financial modeling, insurance mathematics, as well as in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data analysis, and computational statistics. He also made special reference to Professor Koutras, noting his internationally recognized scientific achievements, his dedication to mentoring younger scholars, and his longstanding contribution to the University of Piraeus as Vice-Rector. “This conference,” he remarked, “is not only a forum for scientific exchange and collaboration, but also an opportunity to pay tribute to a career distinguished by excellence, integrity, and service.”
Associate Professor Ioannis S. Triantafyllou, Chair of the Organizing Committee, presented the opening framework of the conference. Over three days, approximately 125 presentations were delivered, covering a wide range of topics in Statistical Modeling with Applications.
