Address
It is a great honor for me to be here today to address this excellent initiative of the Ministry and I thank the Minister for the invitation.
It is also a great honor and pleasure to direct the Postgraduate Program in Bioeconomy, Circular Economy and Sustainable Development and the Laboratory of Bioeconomy and Sustainable Development belonging to the Department of Economics of the University of Piraeus, even though the University is basically economic-business by constitution as the Faculty of Industrial Studies.
The initiative of the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change to bring in contact and communication all the relevant bodies in order to develop the dialogue but also to proceed in practice regarding the issues of innovation and digital transformation in the environment and energy is important and commendable.
The challenges we are experiencing permeate the entire spectrum of economic and social life and change the business model of companies based on the requirements of sustainable development as well as the development model of countries. So we all have to work together to meet the demands and have what we economists call 'economies of scale'.
UNIPI, always having a visionary eye and feeling the radical changes in the international scene, innovated by developing the MSc and the Laboratory, guided by the need for interdisciplinarity and collaboration. Our PMS and Laboratory combine knowledge of economic and business theory and practice with the specialized knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and other specialized subjects, in order to enable an understanding of critical issues and innovations in environmental issues and energy and promote the transformation of businesses but also of the wider economy. Anyone who visits our websites will find that scientists from different schools and subjects are involved, such as from NTUA, to EKETA, from Democritus to the Department of Biology of the NKUA together with academics and practitioners Economists and market people. At this point, I must emphasize the impeccable cooperation and contribution of the colleagues from the Biology Department of NTUA in the creation of the postgraduate program and especially Professor Mr. Borgias. We are proud because we have already included in our undergraduate program a Bioeconomy and Sustainable Development course to prepare for this combined knowledge from the first degree.
From our part, on behalf of our Rector Professor Angelos Kotios, the Department of Economics, our President Professor Giannelis and the entire University, we are willing to cooperate with the Ministry and all agencies in order to transfer our experience and business knowledge to the participants and support them to turn their idea in a reality in relation to the challenges of the Ministry and the continuous needs to improve services and implement innovative technological and business models.
Thank you for your attention and good luck in the hackathon!
