The University of Piraeus Volunteer Team “Kerykes” and the Volunteer Action Team “Ela ki Esi!” collaborated to carry out the event, aiming to create an environment of joy, recreation, and emotional empowerment for children facing the difficult circumstance of being away from their families under prosecutorial order.

For the first time, the organizers hosted a Carnival party within the premises of the Children’s Hospital, transforming the first floor into a space filled with colour, music, games and children’s laughter. The children took part in creative and recreational activities, wore carnival costumes, played, danced, and experienced the joy of a celebration dedicated entirely to them. Through this celebration, the organizers strengthened the children’s sense of care, acceptance, inclusivity and safety.
The volunteers and collaborators of both teams made significant contributions by organizing the event, decorating the space, providing materials, and ensuring the overall implementation of the celebration. The active participation of the University of Piraeus Volunteer Team “Kerykes” once again highlighted the essential role that students play in shaping a university culture grounded in social contribution and solidarity.
During the visit, Roula Sotiropoulou, the Head of the Social Service of the Children’s Hospital “Agia Sofia,” expressed her warm thanks for the initiative and emphasized the importance of such interventions in strengthening the psychosocial well-being of children who reside in or receive treatment under prosecutorial order.
The University of Piraeus remains firmly committed to implementing initiatives that promote social cohesion, cultivate the values of empathy, responsibility, and solidarity, and strengthen the social role of the public university. Through such initiatives, the University actively contributes to creating a more humane and inclusive social environment.
