A new chapter of institutional cooperation with a strong social and human-centred dimension was inaugurated by the Hellenic Parliament and the University of Piraeus through the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation by the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, and the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michail Sfakianakis.

The agreement is founded on a shared value framework that highlights knowledge as a fundamental social right and reinforces the role of institutions as pillars of cohesion, solidarity and social sensitivity. As the institutional guarantor of unity beyond divisions, the President of the Hellenic Parliament actively supported a vision centred on inclusion, empathy and support for vulnerable social groups.
A key pillar of the cooperation is the establishment and equipping of a model accessibility hub within the University of Piraeus, with the support of the Hellenic Parliament. This hub functions as a space for creative interaction and support for persons with disabilities, with the contribution of the University’s volunteer group “Kirykes”, ensuring their equal participation in academic life.
At the same time, the five-year Memorandum strengthens the link between education and the public institutional sphere, providing for important initiatives in training and scientific exchange. These include a 30% reduction in tuition fees for the University of Piraeus postgraduate programmes and Lifelong Learning Centre (KEDIVIM) seminars for employees of the Hellenic Parliament, as well as the establishment of four (4) annual scholarships for Parliament staff to attend the University’s postgraduate programmes. In addition, the Memorandum provides for the joint organisation of conferences and the preparation of studies of mutual scientific interest.
The signing of the Memorandum does not constitute a mere formal act, but rather the starting point of a lasting and dynamic partnership. Both institutions are committed to further developing joint actions that consistently serve the reduction of inequalities, the strengthening of social cohesion and the broader contribution to society.
