The University of Piraeus and Piraeus Bank have taken an important step toward modern, technologically enhanced education with the inauguration of the “Bloomberg Lab powered by Piraeus.”
It is the first Bloomberg Lab in a Greek public university, equipped with 12 terminals and state-of-the-art interactive screens, offering access to a wealth of data and analytical tools through the Bloomberg platform.
The Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michail Sfakianakis, welcomed the packed auditorium, stating: “The creation of the Bloomberg Lab had been a personal vision for years.”He emphasized the importance of cooperation between academia and the business sector, describing the Bloomberg Lab as “a living hub of knowledge” that combines technology, research, and education. He also expressed warm thanks to the CEO of Piraeus Bank and the Bank itself for their significant contribution to the realization of the project, noting that: “Through this collaboration, the University of Piraeus acquires a modern educational tool that bridges academic knowledge with practice and strengthens our mission to shape graduates ready to respond to the challenges of the international economy. This new infrastructure constitutes a strategic investment in knowledge, internationalization, and the preparation of our students for the global market.”
The CEO of Piraeus Bank, Christos Megalou, highlighted the strategic nature of the partnership with the University of Piraeus, stating: “The Bloomberg Lab powered by Piraeus represents another step in the fruitful collaboration between Piraeus Bank and the University of Piraeus. Through this initiative, we strengthen the link between education and practice, and between technology and people. We are creating a modern space where knowledge meets innovation and where the new generation gains the tools to develop and contribute actively to the progress of the economy and society. At Piraeus, we believe that development has real meaning when it is built on cooperation, values, and equal opportunities for all.”
The Chairman of the Department of Business Administration, Professor Dimitris Georgakellos, stated: “I am particularly pleased and extremely proud that the University of Piraeus, through the Department of Business Administration and the MBA in Sustainability powered by Piraeus, is the first Greek university to have a Bloomberg Lab. Undoubtedly, its creation marks another substantial step toward contemporary, experiential education. With this new infrastructure, our students have the opportunity to come into direct contact with the data and tools used by the international market, enhancing their skills and cultivating a culture of analysis, innovation, and responsibility. We warmly thank the Piraeus Group for this strategic collaboration and its support of our shared vision of a university open to knowledge, sustainable development, and society.”
The collaboration is part of Piraeus Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility program “EQUALL – For a Society of Equal People,” specifically within its initiatives aimed at the New Generation. At the same time, the “MBA in Sustainability powered by Piraeus”, offered without tuition fees to top graduates of Greek universities, is the first MBA in Greece that combines business administration with specialization in sustainable development.
